DrawnStrips Reader - The Best Comic Reader App Reviews

Could be perfect but its just very good

I love this app, its the only cbr reader that I know about with real trackpad and fullscreen support. Great job! :D

good if you want to navigate using solely your trackpad

but zoom does not work with dual displays

Was great, but now . . .

When this app works, its great. But now . . . With the new release, all "double" pages now appear at the end of the book. So I read the comic, and then discover the missing pages at the end. Fix that, and its wonderful.

Is this working with the new OS X Maverick update?

I updated to OS X Maverick now every time I open a file, it opens the document for only a moment, then the application immediately closes/quits. Waiting for update. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Getting there but stil needs work

Not a bad app but there are a few things it needs in my opinion. One, a loupe. A simple round magnified area to see details in a comic. My primary reader has this and I use it occasionally to look over the details in the art. Right clicking on a comic page brings up the loupe. Screen shot or extract page. Set OS X icon. Ability to set the background color. I prefer the background to match the edges of the comic I am reading.

fantastic app

Easy to use, does as advertised. Had an issue with dual monitors and a weird bug as it shifted from the retina to the non-retina causing a scaling issue. Sent my message into the developer and next day he sent me an updated version of the app with the bug fixed. Really impressed by the responsiveness and turnaround time. A sound investment.

Good Enough

I can read my books. The preview functionality is nice for finding them in the Finder, too.

Promising, but buggy on Yosemite

Slow to load comics, slow to move into full screen, doesn’t load the comics I click on about a quarter of the time, and it plays a noise every time I use the trackpad to switch pages - you know the “dun” song when you’ve hit the end of a scrollable area. Ugh. There is no discernable way to turn off this sound either. At least not that I’ve found. It’d be a pretty good comic reader (and there aren’t many) if it would speed up, be more reliable, and get rid of that annoying noise with the page flips. For now though - Meh. Simple Comic is more reliable and it’s free! I’m on OSX 10.10.

Great App

Again an update just in time! Thanks for the great tool - a must for every comic fan on the Mac platform!

Perfect, but..

This is by far the best comic book reader I’ve used, and I love the timely Yosemite update. My only current concern is exiting fullscreen mode crashes the app constantly, hope it gets fixed soon.

Ok...

It’s a tad on the slow side. Takes a good 10 seconds or more to load a comic. It seems to crash a lot as well. Hopefully a future update will fix issues. Overall, its ok.

No Library Feature

This would be ok if it had a library feature. Calling itself the best is hyperbole. i’m currently trying to find out how to get my 3.99 back.

Broken

The App *sort of* worked last version but latest version is pretty bad. Turning with scrolling doesnt work at all for me.

Works in El Capitan.

Last version failed when I upgraded to El Capitan. This one runs perfectly.

Mac really needs a Comic Reader, is this the one?

SImple Comic was becoming too buggy for me, and since this app was on sale I picked it up. I like it for the most part. It’s nice to have an app that is built for the retina display when it comes to a visual medium. My gripes are: I would like a compresensive tool bar that is tucked away when not in use. I’d like it to have a loupe tool, maybe the ability to export a page of the comic, and quick access to a “turn left to right” and “Turn right to left” change. Final complaint is the page scrolling with touch gesture, and zoom in with touch gestures aren’t smooth at all. Maybe that’s just an issue with that lates update but I hope it is addressed. If this app gets regular updates and maintanace from the creators it will become the primary comic reader for mac . It’s such a small market the creators might expect a well deserved profits so long as they keep up. Thank you for the app! Looking forward to future updates. When the glitchy touch gestures are addressed I’ll raise my rating.

I used to love this program

I have an older 2010 Macbook Pro without a Retina Display. The problem I am encountering now, is that the program has been redone for Retina Displays. Now when I open a comic book, the issue is all grainy and to be able to read the issue, I have to zoom at a ridiculous rate. They need to install a settings tab, to give people who own macs without a Retina Display, the option to change back to the pre-Retina Display program settings.

I don’t usually do reviews…but DrawnStrips deserves this one.

First of all I am one of many who have looked high and low to find a program that will handle my comics and let me manage them as I see fit. I dabled with some other readers until I stubbled across this one. I must say…nothing else has compared. Not only can DrawnStrips handle any comic file I throw at it, it can convert those files into formats I can share across all my devices. It’s clean, simple, and powerful all while delivering a customizeable and easy to use platform. Now they say nothing is perfect but DrawnStrips might challenge that statement. Now while the program blew me away, it was nothing on the customer service. Fabrice is commited to delivering the best program possible. I encounter a small bug through my use of this program. I reached out to see if it was the program or simply a short between my seat and the keyboard. Within minutes I had a response asking me to perform a few simple tests and in next to no time Fabrice had diagnosed and fixed the problem sending me on my way with a program that worked even better than before. The response time was unparalled and I have never been so blown away by that kind of service. It’s refreshing to know that a developer cares so much about their product that they would take that kind of time to solve a small insignificant problem simply to make the program that much better. DrawnStrips is a home run.
